Shalimar Perfumes
Shah Jahan was so in love with his wife that he had a garden created in her memory, which was named Shalimar. This became the inspiration of Jacques Guerlain when he created a perfume in 1925, with it becoming the signature scent of the House of Guerlain. All of the fragrances that are part of the collection of the House of Guerlain, including the Shalimar Perfumes, have distinct exotic smells that are incomparable to none. What sets the Shalimar perfumes apart is the oriental aroma and the lavish fragrance which remind you of the tropical gardens meant for the gods and goddesses alone.
The Shalimar perfumes are actually part of the House of Guerlain's third generation perfumes. As soon as Jacques Guerlain revealed his creation, it became a huge hit. As a matter of fact, this became the icon of his business immediately after its release.
While other names in the perfume business get their main ingredient from flowers and other herbs that have exotic scents, the Shalimar perfumes are based on vanilla. This isn't new since Jicky, another famous name in the same industry, already used vanilla when it was released in 1889. The Shalimar perfumes however are different since vanilla is the main fragrance and not just another addition to the scent. Guerlain knows how to connect with his target market's sensual side that is why he used vanilla that is also known as a great aphrodisiac as well.
Some people consider these perfumes to be exotic, while others call it as oriental. With the different floral scents and spices that were incorporated in the creation of the Shalimar perfumes, it's no wonder so many find its scent very distinctive. The first couple of versions have stronger scents since the base note is not just vanilla but also musk, sandalwood, ambergris, opoanax, incense, civet, and leather. But as innovations were made, they added more citrus on its top notes aside from the original lemon, hesperides, and bergamot. Nonetheless, Shalimar scents still best reflect sensuality and femininity.
Of course, an epic perfume like this deserves to have an impressive flask as well. Most of the containers of the Shalimar perfumes are very iconic thanks to the crystal flasks exclusively made by Baccarat. It's so beautiful that it even became part of the Exhibition of Decorative Arts during 1925 in Paris. So if you are obsessed with perfumes that has an elegant faade and an even more impressive scent, Shalimar perfumes should be a part of your collection
